Klipriver
Suikerboschrand Conservancy (Established 5 September 2002)
Situated between Johannesburg and Meyerton on the Klip river
Purpose
To promote a code of caring and sharing based on the knowledge that we cannot live alone on this planet and that we must expect to put back as much or more as we expect to take out in our lifetime. We propose a living relationship of mutual trust and respect, a symbiosis of people with nature, to understand the limitations of our environment and to use that knowledge to plan ahead to provide and conserve for generations to come.
Vision
To attract like-minded individuals who seek to make a positive difference to both their own lives and those around them. To conserve, protect, enhance and redirect our course and to become caretakers of the future.
We want to promote awareness of man’s dependence on the environment, and of its aesthetic, recreational, spiritual and economic value. This includes the conservation of biotic diversity, the protection of the environment from pollution and mismanagement, the sustainable use of natural resources and the recognition of the interaction of people, resources and the environment.
To achieve all this we aim to raise funds by:
Sponsorships
Membership fees (R120 pa per household)
Educational field trips
Farmers markets
Arts and Crafts markets
Greening initiatives
Hiking trails
Bird watching
Recreational activities
Agritourism
Rural densification programmes
Specific recycling dumps
