Buffelsdrift
Conservancy
Buffelsdrift Conservancy was established in 1998 in response to the proposed NEGI development. It is situated on the western side of the Dinokeng area, between Roodeplaat Dam and the N1 Highway and include an area of approximately 5000 ha. Currently a boma of about 1000 ha has just been fenced for game and as soon as the required permits have been issued by DACEL, the re-introduction of suitable species will be a priority. Fortunately, there are already a healthy population of indigenous fauna that include steenbok, kudu, impala, caracal, otter, badger, aardwolf and many more.
Buffelsdrift has also developed a reputation as a birding spot of great variety with a count of more than 275 different species in the area. The conservancy has a very unique geology, which in turn resulted in a unique ecology. It is situated in an old volcanic crater with a riverbed (Pienaars river) running through the middle. As it lies between the bushveld and highveld regions, with riverbanks, various wetlands as well as two rocky ridges it caters for an unique variety of animal and plant life.
The conservancy is supported by more than fifty landowners and a strong community involvement in all aspects of the conservancy has been developed. We are proud to be the Buffelsdrift Conservancy.
